Highlighting here another of our Certified SCORE Mentors in the Northwest NJ Chapter, Peter Cohan!

Peter is the current CFO of a manufacturing company and the Treasurer of our NW Chapter. Peter joined SCORE as he was interested in the financial aspect of business and Score gave him the opportunity to acquaint himself with a variety of different industries. He is mostly interested in existing businesses as opposed to start-ups since the analysis of operations is his main focus and area of expertise. He enjoys analyzing an operation from a financial perspective and has helped many business owners who are seeking help.

When Peter does work with startups he tries to explain the benefits of "lean business plans". As a certified Mentor, Peter Cohan also shares the many resources available thru SCORE, such as the list of Score's "Business construct" so they can review the areas important to address when starting a business.

In his own words "With existing businesses, I analyze their financials explaining to the owners the benefits of "break-even analysis", and the various key ratios that will highlight trouble areas."

Peter's experience includes: working for a national public accounting firm for 3 years and then joining a family-owned business that manufactured fabric-backed and paper-backed wallcovering that was sold to distributors in the United States and abroad. In 1993 he sold the business to a competitor and stayed with the merged firm as the CFO, a position he still holds.
